# 论罢工

Busmen have decided to go on strike next week. The strike is due to begin on Tuesday. No one knows how long it will last. The busmen have stated that the strike will continue until general agreement is reached about pay and working conditions. Most people believe that the strike will last for at least a week. Many owners of private cars are going to offer 'free rides' to people on their way to work. This will relieve pressure on the trains to some extent. Meanwhile, a number of university students have volunteered to drive buses while the strike lasts. All the students are expert drivers, but before they drive any of the buses, they will have to pass a special test. The students are going to take the test in two days' time. Even so, people are going to find it difficult to get to work. But so far, the public has expressed its gratitude to the students in letters to the Press. Only one or two people have objected that the students will drive too fast!

中文理解：公共汽车司机决定下星期罢工。罢工定于星期二开始，谁也不知道会持续多久。司机们声称此次罢工将一直持续到就工资和工作条件问题达成全面协议的时候为止。多数人认为此次罢工至少会持续一个星期。很多私人汽车的车主正准备为乘车上班的人们提供“免费乘车” 的服务，这将在某种程度上减轻对火车的压力。与此同时，有一部分大学生自愿在罢工期间驾驶公共汽车。所有的学生都是开车的能手，但在驾驶公共汽车之前，他们必须通过一项专门测验。学生们准备在两天后就接受测验。即使这样，人们仍会感到上班有困难。但到目前为止，公众已经向新闻界写信表达他们对学生们的感激之情了。只有一两个人提出反对意见，说学生们会把车开得太快！

* **due to**：由于；先确认后面是名词性内容；because 后才可以直接接句子。

* **to some extent**：在一定 / 很大程度上 / 到如此程度；限制判断的强度；保留这种限定比换一个大词更重要。

* **a number of**：许多 / 大量 / 少量；a number of 说若干个；the number of 说数量本身，主谓一致要跟着变。

* **so far**：到目前为止 / 从那时起；它们常与完成时一起出现；回到原句看动作还是状态延续。

#### 1. Busmen have decided to go on strike.

简单句，主谓宾结构. go on strike 是固定搭配，表示举行罢工之意，在使用上，这里可以理解为to go 不定式短语作宾语.

#### 2. The strike is due to begin.

简单句，主系表结构. 这里due 是adj. due to do sth. means arranged or expected，所 以to begin 是形容词 due 的不定式补足成分，说明预定发生什么；due 作表语，不能倒过来说 due 修饰 to begin 或把不定式当作名词后的普通定语。

#### 3. No one knows how it will last.

复合句，主谓 + 宾语从句结构，how long 引导间接疑问内容从句，问“会持续多久”，不是 that 引导的陈述内容从句，单词last 要专门查字典学习积累，这里是动词，to continue for a particular period of time 持续；继续；延续之意，因为本身就是持续进行的状态，故而在这个意思的情况下，通常用一般时态说明持续的长短，但 last 也可在特定语境使用进行形式，不能仅因词义是“持续”就一律禁止进行时。

#### 4. The busmen have stated that the strike will continue until agreement is reached.

复合句，主句主谓 + 宾语从句结构，从句是that 引导的宾语从句，主谓结构；该宾语从句中又包含了一个until 引导的时间状语从句，该从句为主谓结构. about pay and working conditions 作定语修饰的是agreement.

#### 5. Most people believe that the strike will last.

复合句，主句主谓 + 宾语从句结构，该宾语从句为主谓结构.

#### 6. Many owners are going to offer free rides.

简单句，主谓宾结构，动词短语are going to offer 整体作谓语.

#### 8. students have volunteered to drive buses while the strike lasts.

复合句，主句主谓宾结构，不定式短语作宾语，to drive buses，后面是while 引导的时间状语从句，主谓结构，本文多次复习last 的用法.

#### 9. students are drivers, but before they drive the buses, they will have to pass a test.

并列复合句，but 连接前后两句，前句为主系表结构，后句为复合句，主句为主谓宾结构，从句是before 引导的时间状语从句，也是主谓宾结构.

#### 11. people are going to find it difficult to get to work.

简单句，主谓宾 + 宾补的结构，it 是形式宾语，to get 动词不定式短语为实际的宾语.

#### 12. the public has expressed its gratitude…

简单句，主谓宾结构，to the students 介词短语作后置定语，表示感谢是给谁的；然后又是一个to the Press 作后置定语修饰letter 是给谁的.

#### 13. people have objected that the students will drive.

复合句，主句主谓 + 宾语从句，that 引导的宾语从句为主谓结构.
